“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
More Life From Less… of what?
Building a business or career is like building a house. You begin with the foundation.
We discovered that the foundation of Wisdom’s House is the “fear of the Lord”, another way of saying “trust in the Lord”.
Now let’s look at each of the seven pillars that are hewn out to support this house so you can build wisely.
1st Pillar Of Wisdom’s House
The first pillar is humility… being poor in spirit. Isn’t this just like God! If you want to become rich, you must become poor. If you want to find your life, you must lose your life.
When we built our house we had to wait for the two solid redwood pillars shown here that support our entry because they had to be hewn from scratch.
Our house could not be finished without them. We had a choice… get angry at our builder or trust the Lord.
More Life From Thinking of Yourself Less
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less!
True humility is letting God’s best come to you by putting your faith in His goodness rather than in yourself or others.
To better understand, you can turn this around and ask,
“Is there anything I can do to earn God’s favor that trumps what Jesus did?”
Nope. He paid for it all. There’s nothing more you can do to earn anything from God. When you get the focus off of you and humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, He will lift you up. (James 4:10)
Humility is being able to put aside your self-righteousness for His righteousness. Rejoice that you don’t deserve what you get (blessings) and don’t get what you deserve (punishment). All because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Think about what Jesus has done for you!
Whether you’re talking customer service, employee performance, or building your dream home, how you relate to God determines the bottom line.
Wisdom kept us from getting upset and interfering with our builder’s work. He simply used temporary supports until the Redwood pillars arrived. No big deal.
More life and life abundantly will come to you when you are poor in spirit (humble).
