Hidden Snares
Across from our home, in full view of our home office window, some amateur out-of-state developers built a spec house.
These guys saw others build expensive homes and sell them for big profits, and figured they could do the same.
It became obvious during construction that wisdom was lacking, and today the house is worth 50% less than what they hoped it would sell for. Their plans crashed along with the real estate market in 2008.
As an entrepreneur, you can avoid costly mistakes if you acquire the wisdom needed to navigate through the mine fields of the business world.
Proverbs holds the key. You can obtain wisdom by following the instructions laid out for you by Solomon… the wisest man ever to live.
Lay The Foundation
When building a house, the first step is to lay the foundation. What is the foundation of Wisdom’s house?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
The foundation is the “fear of the Lord”.
This is a respectful, profoundly humble attitude toward God that enables us to follow God instead of turning away from God. This only comes through knowing the Holy One!
When you know Jesus, you realize God’s promises are fulfilled. His grace is enough. You belong to Him. You are His special child!
Oswald Chambers said, “The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else”
Without this foundation, knowledge is built on the shifting sand of the world. That’s why Jesus said, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
The Seven Pillars
Next week we’ll look at the seven pillars of Wisdom’s house anchored on the solid rock foundation of the fear of the Lord.
